Sailonet offers two ranges of spinnakers:

  • The symetrical spinnaker, with its two identical  lentghs of leeches and which is used with a spinnaker pole.
  • The asymetrical spinnaker with a fixed tackon the deck or on a bow sprit . This one has its luff always longer than its leech.

The Symetrical Spinnaker:
One uses it with the help of a spinnaker pole, its use range is between 120° to 170° of the wind. It is the traditionnal downwind sail. It is much larger than an Asymetrical spinnaker. It is possible to optimise the shape of that sail to make it usable equally as a running sail to a beam reach.
Delivered in a round bag.

The asymetrical spinnaker:
Its tack is fixed directly to the bow or on a bow sprit, its use range is between 80 à 140° of the wind. It is mainly used when sailing in a reduced crew or in family sailing. It is fitted with a luff line which eases the efforts on the  luff sections  when the sail is pulled to its maximum.Delivered in a bag.

The use of a spinnaker sock makes easier the handling of a spinnaker and the yatch maneuvers.

It is possible to use a spinnaker sock with either a symetrical or an asymetrical. For practical reasons, it is preferable to have a shorter sock than the length of the spinnaker leech. It would become more difficult to find the clew if this one would be up in spinnaker the sock.
The right length for a spinnaker sock would be the length of the spinnaker leech + 50cm. ie :leech= 14.10m+050m =14.60m: you will nee a 14.50m spinnaker sock. Click  here,  to access to the spinnaker socks page.
